If the majority of my visitors come from Singapore, it doesn't make sense to serve them using the US region in Amazon EC2. Similarly, if my visitors are European, the Ireland Amazon EC2 region is the best choice.
Instead of using only the US region in Amazon EC2, please add the ability for the users to choose between the Amazon EC2 regions, based on the location of the majority of their visitors.
There are four Amazon EC2 regions:
- US – N. Virginia
- US – N. California
- EU – Ireland
- APAC – Singapore
I wonder how much could this improve the loading speed of my Drupal Gardens website?

Hi charybdis,
Thanks for your feedback on this. I've added it to our list - tracking internally as #AN-21748.

But is it technically feasible? And how much can it improve loading speed for the visitors located in the same Amazon EC2 region?

It is feasable - but CDN is the fastest/best way to improve read speed worldwide which we will do 1st. Other EC2 regions would add complexity and would improve write speed.

Great! Drupal Gardens is already fast, but it could be a little bit faster if you ask me :) I'm accessing it from the EU.

Good suggestion. A related reason to do this: according to Dutch privacy law, you can only store personal data (such as user profiles, I assume) within the EU. I imagine other EU countries have similar laws.

I think Amazon CloudFront is the solution. When do you plan to implement it, and how much could it improve speed?

We are working on it - how much it could improve things depends on many factors - tracking it as AN-22143

I would like to add a vote for this subject. Working with the template editor is quite slow when you're 100+ ms away from the server, because there are many requests to the web server. An option to move the site to Europe would help in that regard, plus it would make the site faster for all my visitors.

Thanks, Jorrit. I added your comments to #AN-22143.

Confirming for Germany.
Even if the law is not enforced atm, hosting in the US will stop some people from setting up sites with drupal gardens.

+1 for European Amazon EC2 region
