I see a reply to lebryld on topic "posting attached files unobtainable to anonymous users" from Chris Brookins (2/2/2012 8:18pm) that indicates that the content control release lets us lock up .pdf files. Can you summarize how that is done?
The new process is simple, easy to implement, seems to work really well, and I got all of my other content types modified and content updated very quickly. Thank you! But I don't understand how to do it with media files, specifically .pdf.
Thank you,
Peggy

Hi Peggy,
Our documentation has been updated to reflect the new improvemnets in controlling access to content for users at the Professional level and above. You may find the following page helpful.
http://www.drupalgardens.com/documentation/permissions/restrict
About halfway down the page is the description of how you can control access to certain content.

Thanks, Dave.
The documentation is thorough and very understandable for such a complex topic and I used it successfully for the types that appear on Structure-Content Types. However, my question is this: isn't it true that a file residing in the Media section is still perfectly accessible with a straight URL on a browser? If so, is there any way to prevent that?
Thank you,
Peggy
PS, sorry to be slow in responding; comment notifications don't seem to be working.

Peggy,
Yes, if someone is savvy enough, they could possibly find the file. But with the files stored on your site, they'd have to really have a good guess if your naming convention of your files made it more difficult.
