Hi,
I want to allow the general public to contribute articles to my site. Drupal Gardens login is a problem in this regard because most people outside of the web development world have n't heard of Drupal Gardens. Being redirected to the login screen of a service you've never heard of tends to spook users.
Facebook Connect login would be much better, and would make DG sites truly social. The most recent post on FC I could find here was dated November of last year. Are there any plans to introduce FC integration in the near future. I noticed that the Drupal for Facebook module is now available for D7.
Thanks,
Ger

+1 for this. OpenID integration would be great as well.
In the meantime you can give anonymous users the ability to publish content; DG has integrated spam blocking so you probably won't have to spend every waking moment monitoring user content.

Hi Ger and jisaacstone,
Thanks for the suggestions! We're looking into ways to provide this. We're tracking it internally as AN-7018.
Also, great suggestion jisaacstone! Thank you for that.

Thanks for the anonymous user suggestion. However, one of the great things about Facebook Connect is that people generally use their real identity. I think this makes the online social experience much more meaningful - much better than the typical forum where people hide behind anonymous aliases.
Sara, good to hear that FC integration is being considered, but, as with all feature requests, it would be very helpful to have delivery dates, even if only very approximate e.g. will it be six weeks or six months? People really want to work with DG, but there's always that question of how long you'll have to wait for that feature that is critical to your website.

was looking for the same feature :-) Great that there is a solution on the way!

I would also really like to see this feature available. I'm kind of seeing it as critical for the types of applications I want to provide.
Any feel for what timeline might be involved in making this happen?
Thanks so much, in advance, for your help and guidance.
Best!

+50 for facebook , +1 for open ID/ Open social/google/linkedin whatever. lol
Nowadays, facebook integration is must! People hate signing up to every website they visit in order to participate in a forum or blog, this would really increase interactions a lot!

Hi Sambhav and Glenn,
Thank you for your input! I've added your "votes" and comments to our internal log of this feature request. Currently there is no ETA for this feature, however it is a popular request and is certainly on the road map.

+1. Is it possible to do this through facebook developemnt code? I already made use of the like button, would the login tool work?

Thanks, all. I recorded your comments on our project for this.
Rock, there's not really a way to link the Facebook login process to that of Gardens at the moment. Part of this project will be to make those features available.

+1 for Facebook Connect!
Let me add that as I've learned about FBC I don't want to use anything else. Please don't spend (waste) time on developing your own API. It would be spent much more wisely leveraging the capabilities of FB to allow potent social integration of what we publish. It makes DG significantly more valuable!

Hi everyone!
This feature is still being actively considered by our team, but I do not have a timetable for its inclusion in Drupal Gardens at this time.
I have added three votes to this Feature Request internally to reflect the interest of the previous three users.
Thanks for you patience!

This is also very important for me. I was hoping to use this along with Google Apps, but forcing my users to have a second account is a deal breaker.
Other than that love your service!

Hi dotlocal,
I have gone ahead and added your vote to this Feature Request, which, from this point on, will be tracked internally as DG-2537.
The current module on Drupal.org for this does not have a Drupal 7 version at this time, but can be found here:
http://drupal.org/project/fbconnect
Please keep checking back for updates.
Thanks!

The question is: is the module being still in development or we are waiting for nobody? :P
9:19am
Hi DRT,
That's a very valid question. The development of modules on Drupal.org relies completely upon the time, interest, and skills of the site's countless contributors. In this particular instance, the contributors would also have to understand how Facebook Connect works and then figure out how to make it work with a Drupal site. From there, someone (or many someones) on our team would have to modify it further in order for it to work successfully with Drupal Gardens.
Unfortunately, there are not enough contributors in the world or hours in the day to get every excellent idea made into a module at the rate at which people are requesting them, so Drupal.org's contributors and the Drupal Gardens team must prioritize based on need, community interest, and complexity. So, the more people that need and/or request a module, the more likely it is to be developed further by us or them (or both).
At the moment, it doesn't look like there is much interest by contributors in the Facebook Connect module on Drupal.org, but that can quickly change if one talented and devoted contributor decides to champion that cause. Further, if our users show a great deal of need for or interest in the module, it would likely move it up our priority list, and we might be the ones who resume work on it.
I hope that answers your question!
Sincerely,
Aaron "Checo" Pacheco

Was just curious if there was any update or progress from the Drupal or DG community regarding a FC feature? I agree with everyone on this thread that this feature would be critical to have in DG going forward. I hope it's still on the roadmap and a higher priority!
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I have gone ahead and added your votes to our internal feature request.
To update you on the status of this issue, we are continuing to actively track user interest in this feature, but there is still no timetable for its inclusion in Drupal Gardens. What I can say, though, is that a great deal of progress has been made on the Facebook Connect module on Drupal.org since my last update here. While that does not necessarily mean it will be included in Drupal Gardens, it is at least a positive step forward in the grand scheme of things.
Thanks for your votes and comments!
Sincerely,
Aaron "Checo" Pacheco
