I'm considering DG for building a site that needs to restrict access to certain content to those that have paid a subscription for a fixed period via PayPal. Does DG have the necessary tools for this? Ideally, different subscribers would have access to different pages (there are several levels/types of content) and there would be a way to easily remind and then block expiring subscribers.
All suggestions welcome - am a bit new to this!

Create different roles and allow access based on role. When someone pays for a subscriptions you edit their role. You can restrict blocks by role in DG but at this point there is no way to restrict access to a node(pages or content) or menu. I think a subscription site will be difficult to do in DG at this time. I suspect additional modules will be added to DG in the future.
I was looking at this service for another project. Might be of interest to you. I don't know anything about it other than what I read on their site.

Hi there,
Content access control is here!
For Professional Subscription plans or higher, you can now restrict access to your site's content to privileged users. Drupal Gardens provides fine-grained access control to your site’s content using Taxonomy-based access control. You can define access control rules describing which users (by role) can view, edit, or delete content. Then you can apply these access control rules to any content you want.
For more information on what you can do with this feature, please see our latest What's New Release Announcement for the most up-to-date list of feature enhancements and bug fixes.
