Media gallery

Media gallery

The Media gallery feature allows you to create multi-media galleries on your Drupal Gardens website. Your users can then see slideshows of your images and YouTube videos displayed in a lightbox floating above your site, or you can display individual items on their own pages. The Drupal Gardens media gallery automatically creates thumbnails of your images for you, pulls in video descriptions directly from YouTube and more. You just tag and label your stuff, arrange your galleries and items via drag and drop and you are ready to go!

Video playback is supported via HTML5 or Flash allowing playback in all platforms including iPhone and iPad.

Enabling this feature

To enable this feature as you create your Drupal Gardens website, drag the slider for Media gallery to On on the Choose a template page.

Media gallery feature

If you enable the feature from the Choose a template page, Drupal Gardens makes the following changes to your website:

  • Enables the Media Gallery module.
  • Creates a Gallery content type.
  • Creates a galleries page at http://[site_URL]/galleries.
  • Adds "Galleries" to the website navigation menu, which links to the galleries page.
  • Creates a sample gallery with an associated preview block.
  • Displays the sample gallery on the home page.

What is a lightbox?

A lightbox is a media display window that presents your gallery items "floating" above the other content in your browser display.

Lightbox example

Your site visitors never leave the page they are on - closing the lightbox puts them right back where they were on your site! It also includes gallery navigation buttons, a link to an automatic slideshow presentation of your gallery and a link to the page of any gallery item.
