Site duplication

It takes time and effort to create the websites that you want and need. If you need to make several websites that contain similar themes or functions, Drupal Gardens can save you having to do all the configuration multiple times. With a few clicks, you can duplicate your site as many times as you need.

Configure and/or theme one or more "template" sites and then duplicate them when you need another one. For example, if you use a particular forum structure, set of menus or theme elements, set it all up just right and keep that site as a master "cookie cutter" to make more.

Note: Site duplication is only available for Basic level or higher subscriptions. To duplicate a Starter site, you must upgrade its subscription.

What gets duplicated?

The following website items are copied into the new, duplicate site:

  • Themes - All themes
  • Users
    • All users with the Administrator user role
    • The user account with the Site maintainer user role
  • Content - All content created by Administrators or the Site maintainer
  • Files - All files uploaded to the site's Media Library or attached to content using the "file" field
  • Configuration, structure, etc.

Duplicating your website

  1. Log in to Drupal Gardens as the owner account for the website you want to duplicate.
  2. In the admin bar, click the My sites link to open your Site manager page.

  6. Click Duplicate site.

If the name you selected is available, Drupal Gardens creates a copy of your website. The copying process can take several minutes. You'll be notified by email when the new, duplicate site is ready for use.

When the new site is ready, the site maintainer and administrators receive an email. The duplication process does not provide access to the new site to any other "template" user accounts, and those accounts will not be notified.

After the new website is created, log in to the new website using the same username and password as on the original website.
