Site ownership transfer

You can transfer ownership of a Starter website to another Drupal Gardens member.

This is useful if you build Drupal Gardens sites as a service for others. You can transfer ownership when sites are done and you will no longer be involved with them, or because someone else will be paying for the upgrade from a free to a premium subscription plan.

Note: If you have a Basic level or greater Drupal Gardens website, the user with the site owner account for the website must contact Support to transfer the website's ownership and verify any billing obligations.

Transferring site ownership

  1. Go to your Drupal Gardens site manager by clicking My sites from DrupalGardens.com or any of your Drupal Gardens websites.

  2. Select Transfer ownership from the More drop-down menu of the website that you want to transfer.

    Transfer site ownership option

  3. Enter the new owner's username or email address, and then click Transfer site.

The new website owner must already be a registered user on www.drupalgardens.com and a member of the website for which you're transferring ownership.

  4. Two emails will be sent to confirm the transfer of ownership. The transfer is not final until the original and the new site owners have both confirmed it:
    • To the original site owner - Confirm your intention to transfer the site by following the instructions in the email. This will trigger a confirmation email to the new site owner.
    • To the new site owner - The new owner must also confirm the transfer by following the email instructions.

After the site transfer

After the website transfer has been finalized, the new site owner can see the website in the list of owned websites on their Site manager page. The old site owner no longer sees the transferred website, unless they have logged in to the website at some time in the past. To view the list of websites that have previously accessed, click the sites link on your My sites page.

Note: If, in the future, you want to log in to a website that you own after you transfer ownership to another account, be sure to log in to the website using your account, so that it will appear in the You're also a member of X sites section of the Site manager page.

The website transfer process affects the website account permissions for both the new and old site owners in the following ways:

  • The original site owner will remain an administrator with privileges on the website.
  • If the old site owner shouldn't have administrator access, the new site owner must remove the Administrator user role from the old site owner's user account.

For more information about changing permissions, see User roles and permissions.
